-- Alpacas: Past, Present and Future! -- 7/20/2003
Wow! To any alpaca breeder trying to decide what to breed for; this book is for you. Mr. Safley covers the history of the alpaca fiber industry in Peru; as well as genetics, tips for selecting alpacas, theories on color inheritance, creation of a breeding program, discussion on the suri gene, and much more. I am so glad to have gotten my hands on this book before purchasing my first alpacas. It helped me decide what my goals would be and what to consider when evaluating a breeding plan. Even seasoned alpaca breeders could benefit from reading this book.

This is a comprehensive piece of work whose scope and detail would make anyone proud. You must want to read this tome as it is a tad thorough. This should be considered a resource for the alpaca enthusiast & those looking to answer the question of what is an alpaca. You can read the parts that interest you & skip the genetics lesson or not. I enjoyed the whole book & would recommend it to anyone who is seeking more about alpaca's. They are truely wonderful animals.
